Medicine Dreams

Storytelling - Medicine Dreams

When we listen to a story, we immediately slip back into being a child again. As the words are created our hearts and imaginations are opened to the many mansions within. Stories can bridge the gap between our inner and outer worlds and bring us a greater understanding of where we fit into the amazing world we live in.

Story behind the Storytelling

My journey as a storyteller began fifteen years ago when I first heard the story Jumping Mouse whilst sat around a fire at a Druid camp 20. I was truly amazed, the story itself was asking me to tell it, it had “good medicine.” and needed to be shared. I was off on a journey, seeking stories which spoke to my heart and which asked to be retold, and have since performed in schools in the UK, Canada, France and Japan. In 2003, with the help of a grant from The Scottish Arts Council I attended a 3 month residential course at Emerson College entitled “ The Craft of The Storyteller.” For five days a week for three months 16 others and I lived and breathed stories and learnt how to confidently breathe life into the tales. Apparently, speaking in front of others is the third most commonly feared thing! Through working as a professional storyteller and tutor I hope to do my bit in dispelling this fear. If we’re going to make the world a better place we’re going to need to talk and listen to each other without fear, and tell the stories that help us remember what’s important in life.
